A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser so it can recognise you on the next request. We use very few of our own; the ads on our pages are served by Google, which sets its own.
1. What we use#
| Type | What it does | Can you turn it off? |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Keeps you signed in, keeps your session secure, and prevents cross-site request forgery. Set by our sign-in provider. | No — the service cannot work without these |
| Preferences | Remembers your choices: light or dark theme, which panel you had open, your last-used canvas size. | Yes — clearing site data resets them |
| Analytics | Counts page views and feature usage in aggregate, so we know what to improve. Not tied to your identity. | Yes — via your browser settings |
| Advertising | Set by Google AdSense to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and — if you allow it — personalise ads based on your visits to this and other websites. | Yes — see section 3 |
We do not sell browsing data
Advertising cookies are set and read by Google, not by us. We do not sell your browsing data to ad networks.
2. Browser storage#
The editors also use localStorage — a separate browser mechanism — to hold things like an unsaved draft, your zoom level and your recently used colours. That data stays in your browser, is never sent to us, and clearing your site data removes it.
3. Cookies set by others#
- Clerk sets the session cookies that keep you signed in.
- Razorpay sets cookies during checkout to complete and secure your payment.
- Google Fonts may be requested when a page loads a typeface.
- Google AdSense and the third-party vendors it works with use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's advertising cookies let it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors' cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. You will still see ads — they just won't be based on your browsing.
These are governed by those companies' own privacy policies, not this one.
4. Managing cookies#
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies from its settings, usually under Privacy.
Blocking essential cookies will sign you out and stop the editors from loading. Blocking preference cookies only means the site forgets your settings between visits.
